AU Hourcade Bellocq JL; Bet for Life proyect from COINSIDA Foundation,
Buenos Aires,; Argentina.
SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):385 (abstract no. PD0148). Unique
Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370491
AB OBJECTIVE: The proyect BET FOR LIFE is an experimental model for
HIV/AIDS prevention focalizing the Gay men population. It is being
applied in Buenos Aires city from Argentina since december 1992.
STRATEGIES: The proyect comprises 4 programs: A. Exploratory research:
Gave us elements to analyze the characteristics of the sexual behaviors
(in our area) and their relation with HIV/AIDS. We were also able to
identify distintive codes. This is also a form of evaluating the
proyect. B. Design: We have designed, printed and distributed posters,
booklets and condom cases with the local language and style. C.
Meetings: This program is called LIFEGUARD and it offers an informal and
one-time discussion meetings to talk about SAFE SEX among peers. D.
Hot-Line: an information line attended by voluntary operators from
monday to sunday from 12 AM to 12 PM. The whole proyect works under the
premise of reinforcing the gay men's identity and self-esteem, since
these variables are directly related to the high exposure to HIV. We
work with SEX-POSITIVE statements. RESULTS: The material is very well
accepted, the proyect has a good image in the community, there is a high
identification with the message and the contens of the message are well
understood.
